NEW CASTLE COUNTY

RAPE AND ROBBERY: New Castle County police are investigating a rape and possibly related robbery in Brandywine Hundred on Tuesday night. Officer First Class John Wegarz Sr. said the rape occurred about 8:45 p.m. in the 800 block of Peachtree Road. The robbery of a pizza delivery person was reported a half hour later in the 700 block, he said.

 

INTRUDER FOUND IN BED: Newark police say a North Chapel Street woman awoke to find a strange man asleep in her bed. The woman screamed and the intruder quickly fled about 5:30 a.m. Thursday, said Newark police Capt. John J. Potts. Potts said the man entered the home through an unlocked door. He was described as clean-shaven, about 5 feet, 11 inches tall, with thin build and unkempt hair. Call Detective Michael Watson at 366-7110, ext. 133, with information. ROBBED AT GUNPOINT: A woman was robbed at gunpoint late Tuesday while carrying the day's proceeds from a New Castle-area business to her car, police said. It happened about 10 p.m. when the victim was carrying the proceeds in her purse in the parking lot of the Penn Mart Shopping Center on Del. 141 at U.S. 13, said state police Cpl. Jeffrey Hale. The bandit demanded cash and reached into the victim's car and stole her purse, he said. When he walked away, the victim told a co-worker and a witness in a nearby car that she had been robbed. The witness began chasing the bandit through the parking lot with his vehicle, but he got away and was last seen in the nearby Pennwood community, Hale said. He is 18 to 25, 5-feet-7 to 6-feet tall with an average build. He was wearing a white T-shirt, tan shorts and white sneakers. BOY CHARGED IN BANK ROBBERY: A 15-year-old boy was charged Friday with robbing a bank near Bellevue. According to state police, the boy approached a bank teller at a WSFS branch located inside the Super Fresh Grocery Store at 2105 Philadelphia Pike Wednesday afternoon. The boy then handed the teller a note demanding cash, police said. The teller complied with the note, handing over an undisclosed amount of money to the boy who then fled. The boy's photograph was recognized by a state trooper from a prior shoplifting investigation. The child was arrested at his Claymont home and charged with first-degree robbery and committed to the New Castle County Juvenile Detention Center in Greenville. The boy's name was not released because of his age.

 

TWO MEN ROBBED: Two New Castle-area men were robbed Saturday night as they walked to a grocery store near New Castle. The incident happened shortly after 9:30 p.m. when two men on bikes accosted the pair and demanded money, New Castle County police said. The 19- and 22-year-old victims told police they first saw the men riding BMX bikes on Chaddwyck Boulevard as they headed to Food Lion. The two bike riders asked the victims for money and drugs, but they ignored them and walked away. Police said the robbers confronted the men at the intersection of East Sussex Place and Chaddwyck Boulevard and grabbed them by their shirts. The robbers insinuated that they had a gun and took money and identification cards from the pair. One assailant was described as 6 feet 3 inches with no facial hair and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with blue jeans. The second man was described as 5-foot-8, and witnesses said he was also wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with blue jeans. Anyone with information is asked to call 395-8110.

 

PHARMACY ROBBED: State police are looking for a 25- to 30-year-old man they say used a shotgun to threaten three employees at the Happy Harry's drugstore on Pulaski Highway in Bear and rob the store of narcotics before fleeing early Thursday. The man, described as about 6 feet tall, walks with a limp and was last seen wearing gray-and-orange Nike sneakers, black pants, a trench coat, a black bandanna, black sunglasses and black military-style gloves, according to a police report. At about 5 a.m., the robber confronted a security guard outside the store and chased him inside, where the guard drew his handgun, police said. The robber ordered the guard to drop his weapon and took him to the back of the store, where he forced a second employee to give him the contents of the pharmacy safe and an undisclosed amount of narcotics. Police said he fled the store with the drugs, shotgun and the guard's handgun. Behind the store, he is said to have confronted another employee with the gun before leaving in a dark blue or black Ford Mustang. There were no injuries. PHARMACY ROBBED: A Newark pharmacy was robbed of prescription drugs by two men, including one who brandished a gun, police said Friday. According to police, two men entered the Rite Aid at 263 Elkton Road about 1:25 p.m. While one of the men stayed near the front of the store, the other walked toward the back, where he lingered near the pharmacy counter until there were no customers. The second man then approached the counter, displayed a black pistol-type handgun and handed the pharmacy tech a plastic bag and note that stated he was armed and wanted the safe opened, police said. The note requested medications, which the pharmacy tech gave him. Police said both men then sprinted out of the store. No one was injured during the robbery.

 

SUB SHOP BURGLARIZED: State police on Wednesday asked for the public's help in finding a Newark-area burglar who drives a distinctive getaway car, a late 1980s or early '90s Camaro that has a black convertible top and one headlight out. Cpl. Jeffrey Hale said a witness saw the burglar and his car after a Subway restaurant at 1450 Capitol Trail was burglarized and an undisclosed amount of cash stolen about 11:45 p.m. on Saturday. The burglar, wearing a black, long-sleeved shirt and gloves, smashed the store's front door, went inside and emptied the cash box behind the sales counter before running out the back door. GUN SEIZED: A Laurel, Md., man was arrested during a traffic stop near New Castle for having a loaded .45-caliber pistol, Delaware River and Bay Authority police said Friday. When Jason L. Clarit, 31, was stopped for speeding on southbound I-295 near U.S. 13 about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, authority police said, the officer found his name was not on the rented car's lease agreement and contacted Avis, which asked for the vehicle to be towed. During the inventory before towing, the officer found a loaded Glock and two loaded ammo magazines in the trunk, police said. Clarit was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and released on $8,000 unsecured bail.

 

ROBBER PHOTOGRAPHED: State police released surveillance photos of a man who robbed the TD Bank at 1001 Songsmith Drive at Governor's Square, Bear, shortly before 11 a.m. Friday. The robber -- described as in his late 30s or early 40s, with an average build and 5 feet, 9 inches to 6 feet tall -- handed a teller a note demanding cash and implied he was armed, Cpl. Jeffrey Hale said. The teller, a 19-year-old from Wilmington, complied and the robber fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, Hale said. A dye pack stashed in the cash exploded as he ran to the rear of the building, he said. The robber was wearing a black T-shirt and baseball cap, dark jeans and sunglasses. SHOOTING CHARGES: An 18-year-old man was charged in a July 18 shooting in the Timber Farms neighborhood in Christiana that left a 20-year-old man critically wounded. Warren May, of the first block of Baylis St. in the Maple Hill Townhouses west of New Castle, was charged Wednesday with first-degree assault and possession of a firearm during a felony. New Castle County police Officer John Weglarz Sr. said detectives arrested May in the first block of Revelle St. after first checking for him at his home. May is accused of being the gunman in an early-morning shooting on Timberwood Boulevard at Arrowwood Lane. The victim was found bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head, Weglarz said. He remains in Christiana Hospital in critical condition. May is in Young Correctional Institution on $150,000 cash bail.

 

BOY SHOT, BYSTANDER INJURED: A 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old woman were injured early Thursday after gunfire erupted in the Christiana Bypass area. Emergency crews were called to two incidents at about 12:45 a.m. in the area of the Christiana Bypass and Old Baltimore Pike, said county paramedic Cpl. Peter Small. The first incident involved someone firing shots into a vehicle, Small said. A 16-year-old boy inside was taken to Christiana Hospital with a head injury. It was unclear if the teenager had been wounded by glass fragments, bullet fragments or the actual bullet, Small said. He was admitted in stable condition. In the same area, paramedics attended to a 19-year-old woman who had been struck by a vehicle, Small said. Paramedics said she was a bystander in the area at the time of the shooting. She also was taken to Christiana Hospital in stable condition with injuries to her head and arm, Small said.

 

SHOOTING DURING ROBBERY: A 26-year-old man has been charged with shooting a woman during an attempted robbery Sunday in the parking lot of a New Castle area convenience store. Shaun Mitchell of New Castle was charged with attempted first-degree robbery and two other offenses in the incident that happened 1 a.m. at the 7-Eleven in the Community Plaza Shopping Center at 287 Christiana Road, said state police Cpl. Jeffrey Hale. Mitchell approached the 21-year-old, who was sitting in a car, and demanded her property. When she ignored him, he fired one shot from a small handgun, striking her in the lower leg, Hale said. Mitchell was arrested without incident at about 4 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Community Plaza Shopping Center and is being held in Young Correctional Institution on $150,000 cash bond.

 

ARMED HOLDUP: Two masked bandits -- one armed with a gun -- held up the Cheswold Shore Stop, 761 Main St., east of Cheswold about 12:50 a.m. Wednesday. They confronted the clerk, who handed over an undisclosed amount of cash along with three cartons of Newport cigarettes, said state police Cpl. Bruce Harris. Troopers assisted by Dover officers and a police K-9 tracked the pair to the Blanton Mobile Home Park a half-mile away. The bandits were not located, although three men were briefly detained, Harris said. Call detectives at 697-2104, ext. 312, or Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333 with information.

 

FIREARM CHARGE: Keith L. Dickerson, 34, of Wilmington was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and five other offenses after he tossed away a gun during a traffic stop about 10:40 a.m. Tuesday at 36th and Market streets just outside Wilmington, said state police Cpl. Jeffrey Hale said. A trooper on North Market Street spotted him driving without a seat belt. After the trooper stopped his car, Dickerson ran off and tossed something over a fence, Hale said. The trooper found a loaded .25-caliber handgun on the other side of the fence. Dickerson was sent to Young Correctional Institution on $5,000 bail.

 

STRONG-ARM ROBBERY: A 26-year-old Angola man who is accused in a strong-arm robbery near Rehoboth Beach surrendered to state police Wednesday. Brock A. Charles of Ashwood Drive was charged with second-degree robbery and released on $3,000 bail. Charles is accused of pushing a 21-year-old woman off her bicycle about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday behind the Happy Harry's at 18993 Munchy Branch Road and stealing her backpack, said Cpl. Bruce Harris. The victim saw him get on a gray Harley-Davidson motorcycle and drive off. She got his license plate number and gave it to state police.

 

DEPOSIT BAG SWIPED: Police are asking for help from the public identifying a robber who grabbed a deposit bag about 9:30 p.m. July 24 from a woman at Community Plaza Shopping Center at Christiana Road (Del. 273) and Appleby Road near New Castle. The robber was described as 25 to 30 years old, 5 feet, 11 inches to 6 feet 1 inch tall with a thin build, wearing a black T-shirt over a long-sleeved white shirt, dark work pants and white sneakers, Delaware State Police Cpl. Jeffrey Hale said. The robber also had a white towel or T-shirt wrapped around his head when he grabbed the deposit bag from the victim near a Wilmington Trust branch and ran toward Appleby Road, he said. NAIL SALON ROBBED: A bandit made off with an undisclosed amount of cash about 4 p.m. Friday after robbing The Nail Salon in the 700 block of Pulaski Highway in Bear, state police said. He demanded cash from three workers and three patrons who ran to the back of the salon, said police Cpl. Jeffrey Hale. The bandit took money from the cash register and ran toward the back of the business. No one was injured. MAN ROBBED: A 23-year-old man was robbed Monday night near Claymont. The incident happened in the 300 block of Clayton Avenue at 9:45 p.m. Four men approached the man, and one of them produced a gun and demanded his cell phone. The man ran down Clayton Avenue and was chased and tackled when he got to Harrison Avenue. They searched his pockets and took money and his phone. The assailants wore dark-colored hooded sweatshirts. RAPE SUSPECT WANTED: A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Wilmington man wanted for raping a minor, city police said Friday. Richard C. Hunt, 31, whose last known address was in the 300 block of Compton Court, was not there when detectives went there with a search warrant, said police Master Sgt. John O'Connor. Hunt is being sought on three counts of first-degree rape stemming from a July 23 incident. O'Connor said they involved a juvenile acquaintance of Hunt's. LIQUOR STORE ROBBERY: A 25-year-old Newark man who stole a $66 bottle of vodka from a New Castle liquor store and assaulted a clerk was tackled and held for police by the store's owner and several bystanders, police said. It happened about 5 p.m. Monday at New Castle Spirits in the River Plaza on the Ferry Cut-off, said New Castle City police Lt. Adam Brams. Officers found several people holding Steven E. Cardwell on the ground, Brams said. One person suffered minor injuries. Cardwell, of the 300 block of E. Main St., was charged with first-degree robbery and two other offenses and was being held in Young Correctional Institution on $2,775 secured bond.

 

ARMED ROBBERY: A 29-year-old man was robbed late Monday by four men, one of whom had a gun, police said. It happened about 11 p.m. in the 700 block of Robinson Lane near Wilmington. The victim told officers he was walking from a friend's home when he was surrounded at the Maryland Park Apartments. The victim said one of the men, who weighed about 300 pounds, pointed at a handgun in his waistband while the three other men -- described as shirtless, between 25 and 30 and clean-shaven -- rifled through the victim's pockets. They stole cash, cigarettes, keys and a baseball cap before running off.

 

SHOOTING: Wilmington police are investigating a late-night shooting Monday that left a city man hospitalized. It happened about 11:51 p.m. in the 300 block of E. 23rd St. The 33-year-old victim, who was found on a front porch, told officers he was walking in the first block of E. 23rd St. when he was confronted by an armed bandit demanding money. The victim began to run, said police Master Sgt. Paul Reutter. The gunman fired a shot in his direction, wounding him in the upper left leg. The victim ran to a relative's house three blocks away and called police. He was treated by paramedics and taken to Christiana Hospital in stable condition. MAN SHOT AT PARTY: Officers say a 20-year-old man was shot in the head early Sunday morning at a party in the Timber Farms community in Christiana and he called police to tell them. New Castle County police said the incident happened shortly after 1 a.m. outside a home in the 600 block of More than 100 people were at a party when a fight broke out and shots were fired, according to police. The man who was shot called police and was taken to Christiana Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Police have interviewed more than 30 people but said they have not found the shooter. Anyone with information is asked to call 395-8110.

 

BANK ROBBERY ARREST: A 19-year-old Milton man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly robbing a bank on Monday. Christopher M. Rivera was charged with robbery and a weapon offense following a robbery at the Wilmington Trust branch on West Market Street in Georgetown. Rivera was caught at 3:15 p.m. after leading police on a chase from Milton into Georgetown. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, but police did not release bail information.

 

RAPE SUSPECT RETURNED: Delaware State Police have arrested a Rehoboth Beach man who allegedly raped a Pennsylvania woman at his home. The woman reported waking up without her clothes in the home of Murat Demirbozan on June 20. Demirbozan, 34, was caught by U.S. Marshals in Burlington County, N.J., on July 14. He was returned to Delaware on Tuesday and charged with two counts of first-degree rape. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution after failing to post $90,000 secured bail

 

5-YEAR-OLD ROBBED: A 16-year-old Wilmington boy was arrested Saturday for knocking a 5-year-old boy off his bike and stealing it, according to New Castle County police. Witnesses saw the teen ride off on the bike about 2:50 p.m. in the 400 block of Homestead Road in Canby Park, said police Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro. The teen, who lives in the 1400 block of Maryland Ave., was found riding it near the Canby Park Shopping Center. He told police he found it in Wilmington's Browntown neighborhood, Navarro said. The teen was charged with robbery.

 

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY: A man is being sought for getting into a struggle Saturday with a 61-year-old woman who refused to hand over money and her car keys, New Castle County Police said. It happened about 11 a.m. when the woman was walking from her car to a Happy Harry's in the Brookside Shopping Center near Newark, said police Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro. The man approached the woman and asked for money and became combative when she refused. He then tried to grab her car keys and the victim resisted. Two female bystanders helped the victim fend off the assailant, who fled on a bicycle toward Brookside Road, Navarro said. He is about 30, has a beard and was wearing a light brown baseball cap, brown shirt and khaki shorts. Call police at 395-8110 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333 with information.

 

SOUGHT IN SHOOTING: Wilmington police are looking for an 18-year-old Wilmington man wanted in connection with a shooting after they arrested a 17-year-old believed to be his accomplice. The 18-year-old, Raymere Broomer of 4306 Miller Road, was identified as a suspect in a July 7 shooting that left two injured, police said. The 17-year-old, whom Wilmington police did not identify, was transferred to Family Court for arraignment. The two are believed by police to have taken part in a shooting in the 2900 block of Bowers St. that injured a 43-year-old and a 17-year-old, police said. DELIVERYMAN ROBBED: A 26-year-old pizza deliveryman was assaulted and robbed late Thursday after making a delivery near New Castle. The robbery occurred about midnight as the Papa John's employee was walking back to his car after making a delivery in the first block of Kathy Court in the Cedar Point Townhouses, New Castle County Police Officer Tracey Duffy said. The victim was approached by a man who assaulted him and ordered him to the ground while a second man rifled through his pockets for cash. They then ran off toward Old Forge Road. The victim returned to Papa John's in the 500 block of E. Basin Road and called police. An officer with a K-9 returned to the scene and tracked the robbers to the Hampton Green neighborhood but failed to find them. KIDNAPPING CHARGE: Kidnapping and attempted robbery are among the charges filed against a man who claimed he was just joking after he grabbed a customer in a store near Newport, held a knife to her throat and demanded money, police said. Michael W. Coleman Jr., 31, of Osborne Road in Rosemont near Wilmington was charged with first-degree attempted robbery, second-degree kidnapping, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, Delaware State Police Cpl. Bruce W. Harris said Sunday. Coleman was committed to Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington after failing to post $20,000 cash bail, he said. The 51-year-old victim told police as she waited in line to pay for merchandise shortly after 11:30 a.m. Saturday at a Quick Mart in the 100 block of N. Maryland Ave., he attacked her from behind, put her in a headlock, held a knife to her neck and shouted, “This is a robbery, give me all your money,” Harris said. The two struggled and the woman freed herself, he said. State police, who arrested Coleman near the store, said he also was sought by New Castle County police in a separate incident. No details of that matter were available Sunday.

 

PIZZA WORKER ROBBED: Police in Dover are investigating the armed robbery Tuesday of a Domino's Pizza employee who was carrying the night deposit bag from the shop at 261 N. Du Pont Highway, Capt. Tim Stump said. Two men believed to be 19 to 25 years old, wearing hooded sweatshirts and bandannas covering their faces, accosted the woman in the parking lot about 12:10 a.m., showed a black, semiautomatic handgun and forcibly took her purse, which contained the deposit bag, he said. The men -- both thin, one about 5 feet 9 inches, the other slightly taller -- then fled toward Whiteoak Road, Stump said. He asked anyone with information to call the Dover Police Department at 736-7111.

 

SHOTS FIRED IN ROBBERY: Two men fired a gun during a holdup about 6:30 a.m. Monday at the Cumberland Farms at 698 Naamans Road in the Claymont area, said state police Cpl. Jeffrey Hale. One of the bandits used a small handgun to confront the 54-year-old clerk and demanded cash from the store's safe. When the clerk told the pair she did not have a key to the safe, the armed man fired a shot at the floor near her, Hale said. The clerk handed over an undisclosed amount from the register and the bandits ran out. They were last seen heading toward Peachtree Road. The armed man was about 6 feet tall, 25 to 30 years old with light facial hair. He was dressed in a white T-shirt, dark jeans and sunglasses. The second suspect was about 5 feet 8, had a goatee and was dressed in a white T-shirt, shorts, dark sneakers, sunglasses and a baseball cap. ROBBERY SUSPECT CAUGHT: A 37-year-old Newark man was arrested late Friday after threatening workers with a box cutter during a robbery at a Milltown Rite Aid, state police said. Shuron J. Johnson was seen about 10:55 p.m. walking toward the drugstore in the 4600 block of Kirkwood Highway, police said. Johnson brandished the box cutter and told them to stay away before running toward St. James Church Road. He was found with two flash drives and 16 bottles of body wash, police said. Johnson was charged with robbery and four other offenses and committed to Young Correctional Institution on $2,500 bail.

 

HOME INVASION: State police are seeking the public's help in a home invasion in Lincoln on Wednesday. Police were called around 2 a.m. to the 18000 block of Sherman Ave. Five men, ages 21 to 34, reported that around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, three people entered their home while they were sleeping. Police said the intruders went from room to room demanding money, drugs and cell phones. They then tied their victims' hands together with duct tape. One man was armed with a knife and hit one victim in the head with the handle. He then head-butted another victim, police said. One of the male intruders is 5 feet 6 inches tall and 175 pounds. He wore a white sleeveless T-shirt, white sneakers and long black shorts with a yellow band around them. The second man was 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. He wore gloves, a white hat and an orange T-shirt. The female intruder was about 5 feet 4, 110 to 130 pounds and wore blue shorts, a white T-shirt and white sneakers. BURGLARY, GUN CHARGES: A Smyrna man was arrested Wednesday after he frightened residents of Liberty Court Apartments in Dover by having a .45-caliber handgun in his waistband. Floyd Bolling, 24, of 206 N. Main St., was arrested after he left the apartment and hid the gun in a nearby bush. Bolling was charged with second-degree burglary and possession of a firearm during a felony and sent to Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna in default of bond.

 

BURGLARY IN DOVER: Dover police are looking for those who burglarized a rental business over the weekend. Police said between 7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Sunday, the Dover Rent-All at 35 Commerce Way was broken into. Burglars forced their way into the manager's office, took a floor safe and caused $400 in damage. The thieves took about $9,300 from a safe, police said.

 

STORE BURGLARIZED: Delaware State Police are asking for the public's help in finding a couple who burglarized a Dover-area business June 29. Police said the incident happened just before 4 a.m. at Super Soda Center at 1272 S. Governors Avenue. The burglars threw a cinder block through a window, removed 90 packs of Marlboro and Newport cigarettes and damaged a motor oil display, according to a report. The man is described as between 5 feet 10 and 6 feet 2 and 190 to 200 pounds. No description of the woman was given. Anyone with information is asked to call 697-4454, ext. 628.

 

PIZZA DELIVERY MAN ROBBED & CARJACKED:  A pizza deliveryman was robbed and carjacked at gunpoint while making a delivery early Sunday near Newark, police said. The incident happened about 2:25 a.m. in the first block of Wenark Drive, said Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro, a New Castle County police spokesman. The 20-year-old victim told officers he was making a delivery to an apartment complex when he was held up by two men armed with a sawed-off shotgun. The victim said he was walking up the stairs of the apartment complex when he was encountered by two men sitting outside, Navarro said. The men told the deliveryman that they had ordered the pizza and tried to conceal their faces. Then they pulled out the shotgun, stole the pizza and cash, and got into the victim's metallic blue truck and sped off. The registration on the truck, which has Pennsylvania tags, is YYM9916, Navarro said. The robbers were described as tall, 18 to 25 years old and unshaven. One was thin and the other had a heavier build. They were both wearing dark hooded sweatshirts.

 

MAN SHOT IN ROBBERY TRY: Elsmere police say a 20-year-old man was shot once in the stomach during a botched robbery in Elsmere early Sunday. Lt. Christopher Workman said the victim and a friend were leaving the Elsmere Skating Rink when the incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Workman said two men walked up to the victim and a friend. They tried to take a chain from the victim and shot him when he refused to give it to them. They fled after the shooting. New Castle County Paramedics said the man was taken to Christiana Hospital in critical condition. Elsmere police are investigating.

 

MAN INJURED IN SHOOTING: A 25-year-old man was shot several times Sunday as he spoke to a friend on the 400 block of W. 30th St. in Wilmington. City police said the shooting happened just before 6 p.m. Officers arrived at the scene and found 12 bullet casings and marijuana nearby, but no victim. Officers went to Wilmington Hospital and found the man who had been shot. He told police he was talking to a friend when a man walked toward him with a handgun. He ran and the man shot him, hitting him in the leg, arm and buttocks. He was taken to the hospital and was listed in stable condition, according to a report. HOME INVASION: A 21-year-old man suffered minor injuries during an armed robbery at his home at 1:50 a.m. Thursday on Dillards Road south of Seaford, state police Cpl. Jeffrey Hale said. The victim answered a knock at his door, and two men with handguns forced their way in, ordered the victim to the floor and demanded money, Hale said. The victim told the men he didn't have any money, and one of the men threatened to shoot him. They took money from the victim's pocket and struck him in the forehead before fleeing, he said. The first man is about 25 years old, bald, and was wearing a dark shirt. He had a silver semiautomatic handgun. The second was wearing a dark skull cap and black shirt. UD STUDENT FOLLOWED: University of Delaware police are advising caution after a female student was followed from the Pearson Hall computer lab to her car in a nearby parking lot Wednesday around 2 p.m. After noticing the man following her motions in the lab and then in the parking lot, she approached a woman in the lot who accompanied her to her car. She described the man as 5 feet 8 inches tall and 30-40 years old with short, dark hair and a muscular build. Police ask anyone with information to contact them at 831-2222.

 

CARJACKING ATTEMPT: An 18-year-old woman was injured during a carjacking attempt about 2:40 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Elliot Street in the Whispering Pines Townhouses in Ogletown, said New Castle County police Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro. The victim told police she was parking her car outside a friend's home when a man with a broken glass bottle got into the passenger side and demanded that she drive off, he said. When she put the car in drive, it lurched forward and struck a nearby parked car. She suffered a minor neck injury, Navarro said. The assailant tried to pull the woman out of the car but was unsuccessful and ran off in an unknown direction. He is 5-foot-10 and heavy with short or no hair. ROBBERY AT KNIFEPOINT: A knife-wielding bandit robbed a Wilmington drugstore Monday night. The robbery occurred about 7:21 p.m. at the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 800 W. Fourth St., police spokesman Master Sgt. Steven Barnes said. A store clerk told officers a man came into the store brandishing a knife, walked behind the counter and held it to the clerk's neck, nicking it. The bandit then tried unsuccessfully to open the cash register and ended up smashing it on the floor to get cash before fleeing. The robber was described as 18 to 24 years old, with a dark complexion, nervous traits and a feminine voice. He was dressed in a gray muscle shirt and dark jean shorts. MAN CHARGED IN ROBBERY: A Pennsylvania man was arrested for stealing an electronic item from a New Castle-area store and assaulting an employee who tried to stop him, New Castle City police said. Waymond E. Wright III, 37, of Philadelphia, was charged with second-degree robbery in the 5 p.m. Sunday incident at BJ's Wholesale store in Airport Plaza on U.S. 13, police Lt. Adam Brams said. The employee told officers that Wright threw him to the ground and fled in a car that was found to be stolen, Brams said. Wright was identified through video surveillance and witness statements.  Wright was apprehended by the New Castle County Sheriff's Department after attempting to flee the courthouse on unrelated charges. He was then turned over to New Castle City. He is being held in the Young Correctional Institution on $14,000 bail.

 

SHOOTING AT DINER: Georgetown police are investigating an early morning shooting Sunday that occurred in the parking lot of the Harvest Diner. The incident occurred about 2 a.m. at the diner at 224 N. Du Pont Highway, said agency spokesman Lt. Lawrence Grose. The shooting stemmed from an earlier confrontation at another location that night. The unidentified gunman approached the victim in the parking lot and shot him in the chest and the leg, Grose said. He was last seen running east of the Harvest Diner. The victim was taken to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes and later transferred to Christiana Hospital. He was listed in stable condition Monday.

 

BANK ROBBERY: A Citizens Bank inside an Acme in the Fox Run Shopping Center in Bear was robbed Saturday afternoon, state police said. About 1:05 p.m., the bandit gave the teller a note demanding cash, said police Cpl. Jeffrey Hale. The teller handed over an undisclosed amount, which the bandit put into a plastic bag before running out, he said. He is 38 to 45 years old, 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall and heavy. MAN STABBED: A 50-year-old Millsboro man was charged with with first-degree assault and seven other offenses Tuesday after stabbing another man during a fight about 10:15 p.m. in the 37000 block of Jasper Lane in the Millsboro area, police said. Police said Gary Gordon was arguing with an older man about a traffic incident and at one point went to his fishing boat and retrieved two filet knives. A third man placed himself between the combatants and was stabbed in the leg. He was take to Beebe Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. Gordon is being held in the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $51,750 bail.

 

STABBING INJURES TWO: Two men ended up the hospital after one of them stabbed the other in a shopping center in Dewey Beach Saturday morning. Dewey Beach police said Richard Smith III, 22, of Lewes, got into a fight with a 43-year-old man in front of the Ocean Winds Shopping Plaza shortly before 2 a.m. Witnesses and the victim told police Smith punched and stabbed the man in the arm and cut his finger. Smith, who fled, cut himself in the process. Police found him a block away and tried to take him into custody, but he resisted. He was subdued and taken to Beebe Medical Center. Both men were treated and released. Smith was charged with assault, aggravated menacing, resisting arrest and weapons offenses. He was taken to Sussex Correctional Institution after failing to post $29,000 bail.

 

ROBBERY AT DELPARK: Two armed men held up a 56-year-old man who was sitting in a van in the parking lot of Delaware Park, state police said. It happened shortly after 2 a.m. Monday, said state police Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh. The victim told police he was waiting for a friend when two men with handguns demanded his wallet. The victim, who was not injured, turned over his wallet and the pair drove off in a light-colored sedan, he said. The bandits are 20 to 25 years old, 6 feet tall, unshaven and thin. GUNSHOTS REPORTED: State police are continuing an investigation into gunshots reported early Sunday in the parking lot of the Delaware Elite Dance Company at 13 Parkway Circle near New Castle. Troopers were sent there about 1:30 a.m. to investigate a disorderly crowd. When they arrived, the crowd started to disperse, police Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh said. HOME INVASION: Middletown police are asking for the public's help in finding a man and woman responsible for robbing a man in his home June 1, officers said. According to a report, Devon Hall, 24, of the first block of Glenway Ave. in Smyrna, and another man knocked on the door of a home on Anderson Street shortly after 10 p.m. The resident, who knows Hall, told police that Hall and a man wearing dark clothing forced their way into his home, held him and took $900 from him. GUN SHOWN TO WOMAN: A woman who stopped to get gas early Sunday got a scare when a man flashed a gun at her near Greenville. Police said the incident happened at 1:30 a.m. when the woman, who police said is in her 50s, stopped at a gas station on Concord Pike, then drove south on Del. 141. As she crossed the Tyler McConnell Bridge, a pickup truck behind her flashed its lights. Believing it was a cop or a good Samaritan, she pulled to the side and the pickup driver got out, came up to her car and told her to roll her window down. Police say she rolled it down a little and he showed her a gun. She then sped off and called police. GROCERY ROBBER SOUGHT: A grocery store near Newport was robbed Friday by a bandit who claimed to be armed, police said. He handed a demand note to a worker at El Gallito y El Munero in the 100 block of N. Maryland Ave. and told her he had a gun, said state police Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh. She handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, and the bandit ran west onto Matthes Avenue. He is in his mid-20s to early 30s, 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 9 and thin. He was wearing a long white T-shirt, dark jeans, white tennis shoes and sunglasses. He also has a long goatee and a tattoo on his left forearm. ROBBERY SUSPECT SOUGHT: A 26-year-old New Castle man, already sought for stealing two diamond rings from a pair of jewelry stores this week, allegedly stole a third Friday, police said. At about 3:30 p.m., John W. Wiseman grabbed a diamond ring from a 63-year-old female clerk at the Michael Gallagher Jewelry store in the Fox Run Shopping Center in Bear, state police spokesman Sgt. Walter Newton said. Wiseman, of the first block of Morris Road, ran to the rear of the shopping center and got into the passenger side of a small red car with a spoiler, Newton said. Warrants have been issued for Wiseman's arrest in this case, and in similar robberies Thursday at Minster's Jewelers in Newark and Saturday at Harris Jewelers in the Concord Mall, where he took a ring valued at $5,000, police said. ABDUCTOR SOUGHT: State police believe a man is responsible for two abductions Wednesday and Saturday in which two women were sexually assaulted. The women were approached at gunpoint in a parking lot near Del. 7 and Churchmans Road in Stanton. The man forced the women to drive him to undisclosed locations and sexually assaulted them. WOMAN SHOT: A 35-year-old woman was shot in the ankle early Sunday morning in Wilmington. Police are investigating the shooting, which happened shortly before 2 a.m. at 23rd and Lamotte streets. The woman told police she was outside when two men started arguing and one of them began shooting at the other. She was struck once in the left ankle. WOMAN BEATEN, ASSAULTED: A 20-year-old woman was beaten and sexually assaulted in Wilmington early Sunday, city police said. The womanwas walking in the 600 block of S. Franklin St. at 6 a.m. when a man approached her from behind. He chased her into Kosciuszko Park, where he knocked her down, punched her and sexually assaulted her. MAN PISTOL-WHIPPED: A 23-year-old man was pistol-whipped and robbed of his bicycle Wednesday afternoon by three assailants near New Castle, police said. It happened about 4 p.m. in the 3000 block of New Castle Ave., state police Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh said. The victim told troopers he was in a parking lot when he was pistol-whipped by a stranger and then assaulted by another person. A third person took off with the his maroon-and-white Cannondale bike, Whitmarsh said. PHARMACY ROBBED: Delaware State Police are looking for a man who robbed a Pike Creek pharmacy this week. A man with a black handgun entered the Rite Aid Pharmacy at the Polly Drummond Shopping Center shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday. He approached the counter and demanded the pain medication Oxycontin, then fled in an unknown direction, state police said. No one was hurt. Police said they do not know whether the man also is responsible for Oxycontin robberies at other pharmacies in recent weeks. The robber was 24-30, weighed 120-130 pounds and stood 5 feet 6 to 5 feet 7. He had light brown hair and a thin goatee. TEEN CHARGED IN HOLDUP: An 18-year-old Smyrna man was arrested for stealing a woman's purse at gunpoint Sunday night. Dover police said the incident happened just after 10 p.m. in the parking lot of Dover Downs, when Matthew Zimmerman, of the 100 block of York Drive, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the victim. He then fled with the purse to the movie theater near the Dover Mall, where security officers spotted him. He was later arrested by Dover police. Zimmerman was charged with robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was committed to Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna after failing to post $40,000 secured bond.

 

7-ELEVEN ROBBED: State troopers are searching for a man who held up a New Castle area convenience store over the weekend. The robbery occurred at 5:42 p.m. Sunday at the 7-Eleven at 284 Christiana Road. The store clerk was conducting an inventory of tobacco products in the back of the store when he was approached by a man who implied that he was armed, said state police Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh. The bandit then grabbed three cartons of cigarettes from the clerk's hands and ran out of the store. He last was seen heading toward Georgetown Manor Apartments, Whitmarsh said. The clerk described the bandit as being about 6 feet, 3 inches tall and weighing about 190 pounds. He was dressed in a black T-shirt with a gray undershirt, dark blue jean shorts and black sneakers. ROBBERY, ASSAULT CHARGES: A 19-year-old Georgetown man was charged Friday with shoplifting and assaulting a worker at a Rehoboth Beach Wal-Mart, state police said. Duane Hutton of Simpler Branch Road was spotted about 6 p.m. taking items from several displays and hiding them in his clothing, said police Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh. When Hutton tried to leave without paying, he was confronted by store workers. He refused to cooperate and struggled with one worker who suffered multiple cuts and scrapes, Whitmarsh said. Hutton was held until troopers arrived and charged with robbery, assault and two other offenses. He was released on $2,500 bail.

 

RAPIST SOUGHT: Police are looking for a man who raped a 24-year-old woman while burglarizing her apartment early Friday near Bellefonte. The woman awoke about 2:20 a.m. to find the man standing over her with a handgun in her home in the Woods Edge apartments in the 1200 block of Terra Hill Drive, said Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro of New Castle County police. After pointing the gun at the victim and demanding money, the bandit forced her into another room and sexually assaulted her. He then stole cash and fled, Navarro said. The suspect is in his late 20s, about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. MAN BEATEN, ROBBED: A 50-year-old man was beaten and robbed while walking Thursday night in Wilmington. Police say the Wilmington man was walking on the 100 block of W. 21st St. at 11 p.m. when he was approached by three men. One of the men punched him in the face and he fell. A second, who had a gun, took his money. The victim tried to walk home, but three girls who spotted him called an ambulance. He was treated at Wilmington Hospital for a broken leg and injuries to his face and was listed in stable condition Friday, police said. Police ask anyone with information to call 576-3620.

 

GUN CHARGES: Two Wilmington men were arrested on gun charges Wednesday after police stopped the car they were in for a traffic violation. New Castle County police said they stopped a Nissan Maxima around 9 p.m. after the driver failed to use a turn signal when going from Ashley Place onto Maryland Avenue in Wilmington. An officer who approached on foot smelled marijuana coming from the car and removed two passengers. A loaded .40-caliber handgun was found in the car. Driver Emilio Burgos, 26, of the 500 block of S. Franklin Street and passenger Muhammad Stevens, 25, of the 1700 block of W. Eighth St. were charged with weapons offenses. Burgos was released on $8,000 secured bail, and Stevens was released on $2,000 secured bail.

 

MAN STABBED: An 18-year-old New Castle man stabbed his stepfather with a steak knife Thursday morning after his mother and the man got into an argument, Newark police said. Officers said the incident happened just after 12:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Lehigh Road. The husband and wife were arguing and Christopher M. Orzechowski joined in and fought with his stepfather before stabbing him, police said. The victim was admitted to Christiana Hospital with a puncture wound to the abdomen and an incision to the liver, authorities said. Orzechowski, of the 200 block of Romeo Drive in New Castle, was charged with assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Two juveniles were present during the assault. Orzechowski was released on $10,200 bond.

 

PURSE SNATCHED: Delaware State Police are looking for a man who snatched a woman's purse Wednesday night inStanton and another man who acted as his lookout. The incident happened just before midnight in the parking lot of a Wawa at 4601 Ogletown Stanton Road (Del. 4). A 19-year-old woman told police she was approached by two men and that one of them wrestled her purse away while the other acted as a lookout. They fled on foot toward Harmony Road. Police described the man who snatched the purse as 5 feet 5 inches tall with a thin build and brown hair. He wore an orange T-shirt and jean shorts. His companion appeared to be in his early 20s and was 6 feet tall with braided hair. He wore a white T-shirt and shorts. TEENS SOUGHT IN ROBBERY: Two teenagers are being sought by New Castle County Police in a robbery early Tuesday morning. Police said two 18-year-olds were sitting at a DART bus stop near the Crofton Townhouses near Providence Drive when two males jumped out a white Mercury Grand Marquis and approached them with guns. They fled after taking cash, a cell phone and other items. The car contained four males, but only two got out, the victims said. One of the suspects was described as between 17 and 19 years old, about 6 feet tall and of thin build. He wore a dark blue hooded sweatshirt with white stripes and a black skull cap. The second suspect, also thought to be a teenager, was described as 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a muscular build. He wore a black hooded sweatshirt, black shoes and black pants. SOUGHT IN ROBBERY: A 21-year-old Dover man is wanted for grabbing a woman by the neck and stealing her purse, police said. Charles J. Beck of the 700 block of Fairview Avenue is wanted on robbery and criminal mischief charges in the incident that occurred about 7 p.m. Monday in front of Mr. B's on Del. 8, said Dover police Lt. Tim Stump. Beck used a key to damage a vehicle in the parking lot before taking the victim's purse, Stump said. Call police at 736-7111 with information about Beck's whereabouts.

 

PILLS STOLEN: A 44-year-old woman was tackled in a parking lot outside a Stanton pharmacy by a man who stole a painkiller prescription she had just filled. The robbery happened outside the Stanton Discount Pharmacy at 2006 W. Newport Pike at about 1:50 p.m. Monday, said Delaware State Police Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh. The woman was approached by a man who tried to grab the oxycodone prescription from her hands, tackled her and took the pills, Whitmarsh said. He then fled toward Del. 4. The woman suffered minor scrapes in the attack. She told police the assailant was in his early to mid-20s and was wearing a white T-shirt and long jean shorts. TWO ARRESTED IN ROBBERY: Two teenagers, including a 15-year-old, were arrested Sunday for robbing two men in Newark. Newark officers said the incident happened just before 2 a.m. at the Shell gas station parking lot at 1005 S. College Avenue. Three suspects approached the pair and hit one of the victims in the face with a gun before demanding money, officers said. The trio fled when two New Castle County police officers intervened. Gerald L. Nichols Jr., 18, and a friend, both of Wilmington, were charged with robbery and conspiracy. One suspect got away. The officers found a BB gun that was discarded. TWO BURGLARIES, ONE ARREST: County and state police investigating two Claymont-area burglaries early Monday chased down a suspect they say was linked to a pizza shop break-in. Shortly after 1 a.m., state police responded to an alarm at Claymont Fresh Produce at 2407 Philadelphia Pike. As they were on that scene, New Castle County detectives got sent to a burglary at a nearby Pat's Pizza restaurant. Troopers converged there and, with county officers, set up a perimeter around that crime scene, police said. Christopher Toth, 37, of Wilmington was charged with felony burglary, misdemeanor theft and criminal mischief, a misdemeanor. So far, police said, Toth has been "only positively linked to the burglary at Pat's Pizza." Toth was arraigned and committed to the Department of Correction for lack of $20,000 bail. His address and detention facility were not immediately available.

 

ARMED ROBBERY: Four suspects were charged with first-degree robbery Wednesday after they returned to a robbery scene for a dropped cell phone, police said. Charged were Derek Kelly, 22, of the 2400 block of W. Eric Drive in Milltown; Craig Speakman, 23, of the 100 block of Festone Ave., near New Castle; a 17-year-old boy of the first block of Hempsted Drive in Glasgow, and a 17-year-old boy from the 1100 block of King James Court in Bear, New Castle County police said. A 19-year-old man and his 21-year-old girlfriend said they were robbed at gunpoint about 3:15 a.m. near Montgomery Road and Brook Lane near Elsmere. They said four men drove off in a black car and officers searching the area spotted it on Faulkland Road. In the car they found the victims' stolen wallets, and a cell phone the suspects had returned to retrieve, police said.

 

ROBBED OUTSIDE ICE CREAM SHOP: A 51-year-old Newark man told police he was beaten and robbed after he was pulled from his vehicle while trying to buy ice cream for his children. It happened Wednesday about 8:55 p.m. in a parking lot between a gas station and the Dairy Queen in the 300 block of E. Chestnut Hill Road near Newark, state police Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh said. The man said that as he was preparing to go through the drive-through, a man opened his passenger-side door, and moments later a second man opened his driver's-side door and pulled him out, Whitmarsh said. The victim said he was assaulted and his money and cell phone were taken. He did not require medical attention, Whitmarsh said. The two robbers were between 5 feet, 8 inches and 6 feet tall. One was 200 to 220 pounds, with a large build, and had a scarf covering his face. The other was 170 to 180 pounds, with an average build, and also had his face covered. BANK ROBBERY: Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying a man wanted in an armed bank heist Thursday in Millington, Md. It happened about 1:42 p.m. at Peoples Bank at 31905 River Road. The bandit pointed a gun at a teller and demanded money. The teller complied and the gunman ran out. He was last seen running toward River Road (Md. 291). A reward is offered for information leading to his arrest. ASSAULT, ROBBERY CHARGES: A 47-year-old Rehoboth Beach woman Friday was charged with twice assaulting a store employee after she was caught shoplifting, police said. Mona Sheppard of the West Rehoboth area was seen about 9:12 p.m. using a knife to cut open the packaging to two cell phones in the Walmart at the Rehoboth Mall, state police Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh said. She put one of the phones in her pants and the other in her bra, he said. When confronted, she assaulted a loss-prevention worker in the store and again outside, Whitmarsh said. Sheppard was charged with robbery and possession of shoplifting tools and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $6,136 bail

 

HAPPY HARRY'S ROBBED: An armed bandit held up the Happy Harry's in the 1100 block of Pulaski Highway in Bear about 9:58 p.m. Friday, police said. He presented a cashier with candy to buy, state police Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh said. When she rang up the sale and opened the register, he pulled a handgun and demanded money. The clerk handed over an undisclosed amount and the thief fled in a boxy-style gray car. The bandit is about 6-feet-4 and thin with short hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt. MAN SLASHED WITH KNIFE: Delaware State Police are asking for the public's help in finding three men who attacked another man outside a Wawa store near Hares Corner early Saturday. Police said the incident happened at 4:40 a.m. on a corner near the store at 183 Churchmans Road. The 33-year-old victim told police that he was smoking a cigarette when three men approached and told him he was in the wrong neighborhood, calling him a "white boy." The man told police that one of the men slashed his leg with a knife. After the attack the trio ran toward a wooded area along Airport Road. MAN SHOT: A man in his 30s was shot multiple times in his lower body Sunday night in Wilmington, officials said. New Castle County paramedics said the shooting happened around 9:15 p.m. in the 1200 block of N. Claymont St. The man was transported to Christiana Hospital and was in stable condition.

 

MAN SHOT IN HAND: A 28-year-old man told police he was shot in the hand after waving at a group of people early Saturday. Wilmington police said the incident happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. in the 800 block of N. Adams Street. The victim told police he saw two men sitting on a porch talking with girls. The victim waved at them and the men got upset. One of the men shot him and both fled in a white Cadillac, he told police. He was treated at Christiana Hospital. One of the men is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. The other was described as 5-foot-11 and weighing about 240 pounds. ALCOHOL, GUN CHARGES: Three people, including a 17-year-old, were arrested early Sunday morning after Dewey Beach police found a driver intoxicated and a passenger in possession of a shotgun. Police stopped the car shortly before 12:30 a.m. along King Charles Avenue near Coastal Highway. Police noticed the car at a green light and saw that it did not move. According to a report, an officer approached the car and suspected the driver, 17, had been drinking, saying he smelled alcohol on his breath. He asked the driver, along with Dustin Taylor, 20, of Milford, and Kurt Lapinsky, 21, of Georgetown, to get out of the car. Police found an unloaded 12-gauge shotgun inside. The 17-year-old was released and is in the custody of a parent after being charged with underage consumption of alcohol. Taylor was charged with weapons offenses. Lapinsky was charged with conspiracy.

 

ROBBERY, BEATING IN DOVER: A person suffered minor injuries in a beating and robbery Monday in Dover, police said. About 10 males punched and kicked the victim at about 1:15 a.m. in the first block of S. Kirkwood St., officers said. Dover Capt. Tim Stump did not provide the victim's age or gender but said the group took the victim's wallet, money and cell phone. Police ask anyone with information to call 736-7111.

 

ABDUCTION ATTEMPT: Delaware State Police are looking for a man driving a white sedan with scratches on it who tried to lure a six-year-old girl into his car Sunday. Police said the incident happened at 5 p.m. along Rhode Island Drive near Dover. The girl was walking home from a friend's house when the man pulled up next to her and offered her $10 to get in his car. She ran back to her friend's home and told her story, officers said. The man is described as 30-50, 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 11 inches tall and 130-150 pounds. He wore a white T-shirt and white jeans and had shoulder-length brown hair. FLAT-SCREEN TV THEFT: Dover police were searching Monday for information regarding a weekend burglary in which a flat-screen television was stolen. The theft happened between 11 p.m. Friday and 1:45 a.m. Saturday in the 400 block of E. Wind Drive. A burglar pried open a rear sliding-glass door. TWO SHOT ON CORNER: Two men in their 20s were shot while standing on a corner in Wilmington on Monday afternoon, Wilmington police said. According to a report, the shooting took place at 2:30 p.m. at 25th and Pine streets. The shooter was driving a gray SUV, police said. When officers responded to the scene, the found a 21-year-old man shot in the upper arm. The second victim, a 24-year-old man, later arrived at Wilmington Hospital with a gunshot to his pelvic area. WEAPON, DRUG CHARGES: New Castle County and University of Delaware police arrested a man Saturday who was hiding a gun that resembled a folding knife in his underwear. Officers stopped Keenan R. White, 22, of the 600 block of W. Ninth St. in Wilmington, after he drove through a red light near Salem Church Road near Newark. Police said they saw White reach under his leg. During a search, police found the gun, which they initially thought was a knife. The gun was later found to have been stolen in October. He was charged with possession offenses, receiving a stolen handgun, possessing marijuana and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He was released after posting $7,500 secured bail

 

GUNPOINT ROBBERY: A Wilmington man who was walking his dog late Tuesday in the city's Highland section was robbed at gunpoint by two men who fled in a light-colored sedan. It happened about 11 p.m. in the area of 17th Street and Riverview Avenue. The 43-year-old victim told police the car with 22-inch chrome wheels drove past him and stopped. Two men who each had a semi-automatic handgun got out and demanded his property. The victim said he handed over money to the bandits who then took off in a Ford Crown Victoria-type vehicle. OXYCODONE STOLEN: State police are asking for help in locating a man who stole prescription drugs from another man standing at a Kirkwood Highway bus stop. It happened about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday east of Delaware Park Boulevard in Milltown, said Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh. When a 28-year-old man took an oxycodone pill that was prescribed to him, a man next to him grabbed the bottle and ran off, Whitmarsh said. The victim lost sight of him near the Heritage Court Apartments. Whitmarsh said witnesses confirmed the account. The suspect is about 5-foot-8, 170 pounds with long, black, braided hair. SHOT FIRED INTO HOME: A gunman Tuesday night fired a shot through the front window of a Milltown home that was occupied by three adults and five children. The bullet lodged in an interior wall and no one was injured. New Castle County police are now searching for a maroon car that was seen speeding past the home. It happened about 9:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of Hammond Place in Kirkwood Gardens, said Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro. Officers searched the area for a vehicle but could not find it, he said. DRUG, GUN CHARGES: A 35-year-old Dover man was arrested Wednesday after police found a gun and drugs in his home. Police issued a search warrant for the home of Frank Cuffee in the 100 block of Pine St., where they recovered a semiautomatic rifle and 24.1 grams of cocaine. Cuffee was charged with multiple drug offenses and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was released after posting $72,531 secured bond.

 

PHARMACY BURGLARIZED: Milford police are asking the public's help in identifying three burglars who broke into a pharmacy early Thursday and tried to break into another. The first incident occurred about 3 a.m. at the Pill Box Pharmacy at 115 Aerenson Drive, where the trio broke in and stole undisclosed property, Milford police Detective Dwight Young said. Forty minutes later, the burglars turned up at the Bay Pharmacy, 10 S.E. Front St., but could not get into the store. They are possibly driving a silver passenger car. BURGLARY ARREST: A 32-year-old Newark-area man was arrested Thursday for attempted burglary after his fingerprints were found at the 84-year-old victim's home, police said. The victim about 10:35 p.m. Tuesday was awakened by the sound of someone trying to break into her house in Chestnut Hills Estates near Newark, said New Castle County police Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro. When she went to investigate, she found her outside flood lights turned on and a broken window pane. The lights are activated by a switch inside the house. Investigators found fingerprints near the rear window and a green bicycle in the yard that did not belong to the victim. The fingerprints were found to be those of Dallas Porter of the 2900 block of Old Ogletown Road. The bicycle belonged to an acquaintance of his. Porter was charged with attempted burglary and criminal mischief and was taken to Young Correctional Institution on $5,500 bail

 

SHOOTING NEAR DOVER: State police are investigating a shooting near Dover that left a 20-year-old man wounded. The incident occurred about 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the 100 block of S. Governor Blvd. in Capitol Park, where the victim was standing in his driveway talking to an acquaintance, said state police spokesman Sgt. Walter Newton. Across the street, a large group of people were gathered when an altercation broke out and shots were fired. The man standing in his driveway was struck in the back, Newton said. He was taken to Kent General Hospital and later flown to Christiana Hospital. The victim was listed in stable condition Friday. MAN ATTACKED WITH ROCK: State police are searching for the assailant who brutally attacked a 54-year-old Sussex County man in front of his home about 1 a.m. Thursday in the 700 block of Sand Court near Bethany Beach. The victim told police he had returned home and was putting the top up on his convertible when a man approached and demanded his wallet. He refused, prompting the thief to pick up a rock and strike him in the head until he passed out, state police spokesman Sgt. Walter Newton said. When the man regained consciousness, he called for help and was taken to Beebe Hospital. He was admitted with a fractured skull, Newton said. MAN WANTED IN SHOOTING: Warrants have been issued for a Bridgeville man wanted in connection with a Wednesday night shooting in Seaford that left a man hospitalized, police said. Leondre M. Williams, 32, of the 400 block of Elizabeth Cornish Landing, is sought on charges of attempted murder and weapons offenses. Seaford police Lt. Richard Jamison said the incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Kimbrough Court in Chandler Heights. Arriving officers found the victim with two gunshot wounds -- to the hip and to the buttocks. He was taken by ambulance to Nanticoke Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. THREE CHARGED IN ROBBERY: Three people -- two of them juveniles -- were arrested in connection with a strong-arm robbery early Thursday on the University of Delaware campus in Newark. The incident occurred about 3:13 a.m. on the east side of Memorial Hall, where a 19-year-old student was assaulted, knocked to the ground and robbed. The assailants ran off toward South College Avenue after stealing his cell phone and wallet. The student was not injured. University of Delaware police charged Elijah S. Smith, 18, of New Castle, and two juvenile suspects with second-degree robbery, third-degree assault, criminal mischief and conspiracy. Smith was committed to the Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $2,000 bail. The juveniles, whose names were not released because of their ages, are being held in the Camelot Juvenile Facility in lieu of $2,000 secured bail.

 

ROBBED AT LIQUOR STORE: Wilmington police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who robbed a 62-year-old woman Saturday in a liquor store. The incident happened about 7:25 p.m. at 601 W. Eighth St. The man forcibly took an undisclosed amount of money from the victim as she was trying to make a purchase. He then threw the woman to the floor. She did not require medical treatment, police Master Sgt. Steven Barnes said. The robber is described as about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 215 pounds with a thin mustache and some of his front teeth missing. ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING: An off-duty paramedic accidentally shot himself in the thigh Thursday afternoon police said. The 25-year-old Newark man, whose name was not released, was driving a Dodge Dakota pickup south on Del. 896 near Glasgow Avenue when he turned to check on his German shepherd and a .38-caliber pistol in his waistband fired once. The bullet lodged near his kneecap, police said. He was flown to Christiana Hospital, where he was in stable condition Thursday.

Police said the incident happened at 3:13 a.m. on the east side of Memorial Hall. ROBBED WAITING FOR BUS: A 20-year-old man waiting for a bus was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday night by two men armed with what appeared to be a BB gun. The incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. in the area of Mendell Place near New Castle. The victim told New Castle County police two young men approached him, one armed with an airsoft gun or BB gun, New Castle County police Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro said. The bandits demanded money and started punching and kicking the victim until he relinquished his wallet, laptop and other valuables. CONVENIENCE STORE ROBBED: A 27-year-old Felton man was arrested Tuesday 12 hours after he allegedly robbed a Middletown convenience store, police said. The armed robbery occurred about 3:20 a.m. Tuesday at the Valero Shore Stop at 38 E. Main St.. Police Chief Henry Tobin said Anthony Byrom walked into the store, and approaching the clerk, pulled up his shirt to display a handgun tucked into his waist. He demanded money and fled with about $70. Police found Byrom several blocks from the robbery scene, where he tried to run from officers, Tobin said. He was charged with first-degree robbery, wearing a disguise during a felony, possession of a firearm during a felony and resisting arrest. Byrom also was wanted by the Department of Correction on a charge of escape after conviction.

 

STONG ARM ROBBERY: A warrant has been issued for a 20-year-old Wilmington-area man who police say dropped his wallet at the scene of an assault and robbery in Greenville. Two others,as yet unidentified, also are sought in the Monday night crime. The incident was reported about 9:40 p.m. in the first block of Mary Ella Drive. When New Castle County police arrived, they found two men bleeding from the head and face. A 32-year-old man was confronted by three assailants in the parking lot of an apartment complex who assaulted him, stealing his wallet and cell phone. When the victim's roommate intervened, he was assaulted. CHARGED IN BURGLARY TRY: A 29-year-old Newark man was charged with attempted burglary Sunday. Darrin C. Raetsch was also charged with criminal mischief and other offenses. Police said a group of people were on a roof in the first block of E. Cleveland Ave. around 1:30 a.m. when they saw a man park on College Avenue and observe the area with binoculars. He then tried to break into the home where the group was. Police said they found Raetsch with a hammer, screwdriver, black mask and gloves and a folding knife. A screen had been cut, they said. Raetsch was released on $11,600 unsecured bond.

 

MAN SHOT IN PARK: Wilmington police are investigating a Monday shooting that left one male in Christiana Hospital with a gunshot wound to his buttocks. Wilmington police did not respond to calls from The News Journal about the shooting, which fire board officials said occurred at 6:11 p.m. in Judy Johnson Park at Second and Du Pont streets. A man sitting on his porch in the 200 block of Du Pont St. said he heard women scream and then heard two shots, a brief pause and then two or three more. The neighbor said he suspected something was wrong because 80 to 100 people were in the park, which is unusual for a Monday evening.

 

TEEN SHOT TO DEATH: Wilmington police were on the scene of a fatal shooting late Monday on the 1200 block of W. Third St. The victim, identified only as a male teenager, was shot multiple times in the torso, police said. Officers were called to the scene at 10:20 p.m. When they arrived, they found the victim lying on the sidewalk. He was transported to Christiana Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:41 p.m., police said.

 

CHARGED IN SHOOTING: A 24-year-old Lincoln man was arrested Friday after he fired a shotgun at a man who was standing in the doorway of his house, state police said. After pulling his Jeep up to the victim's house in the 10000 block of Greentop Road, Dennis Hicks got out about 1:40 p.m. and began shooting at the 27-year-old, said police Sgt. Walter Newton. The victim was struck in the torso several times and was treated for minor injuries. A 42-year-old female relative who also was in the doorway was not injured. Hicks fled and his Jeep was found abandoned by Milford police. His shotgun was found in a lake off Cedar Creek Road near Del. 30, Newton said. Hicks was arrested in Georgetown. He was charged with assault and other offenses and was being held on $94,500 bail.

 

HOMEOWNER STRIKES BURGLAR WITH BUTT OF GUN: A 31-year-old Frederica woman has been charged with burglary after a Milford homeowner struck her with the butt of a gun as she was carrying a television from his living room, police reported Wednesday. Two Milford officers as well as the suspect suffered minor injuries when she resisted arrest, police said. The burglary victim was a 64-year-old man in the 1000 block of E 2nd Street. He woke up when he heard suspicious noises in the home, grabbed a .22 caliber rifle and went to investigate. Police said he spotted a woman carrying a flat-screen TV across the living room, told her he was armed and ordered her to put down the set. He then struck her with the butt of the rifle, causing her to drop the set. When she turned to confront him, the resident realized he knew the woman, who fled. The victim then flagged down a patrol car responding to another call. The woman was later identified by police as Rosemary Martz, of the first block of Front Street. She was charged with burglary, theft from a victim over 62, criminal mischief, offensive touching of an officer, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest with force or violence. Police said they found Martz hiding in the basement of a home in the 900 block of East 3rd Street. She allegedly began fighting with officers when they tried to arrest her, striking one in the face with her elbow. She was subdued and taken to a patrol car but she tried to slide beneath it, police said. Martz was treated at Milford Memorial Hospital for minor scrapes, police said. Two officers also were treated there for minor injuries and released. Lt. Edward A. Huey said Martz was found to be wanted by several courts and police agencies, including charges of theft and unlawful use of a credit card under the alias Rosemary Dotson. Martz was committed to Baylor Women’s Correctional Center near New Castle in lieu of $10,000 secured bail. The burglary case will be heard in Sussex County Court of Common Pleas and the credit card case in Kent County Court of Common Pleas. The burglary occurred March 1, according to a police news release. There was no reason given for the delay in reporting the incident.

BB GUN ARREST: A 17-year-old Christiana youth was arrested Monday after police said he pointed a BB gun at two people in a gas station parking lot near Newark. Delaware State Police responded to the BP gas station at 98 University Plaza after two youths, 18 and 16, reported that the boy pointed the gun at them. One of the boys knew the suspect, police said, and has had run-ins with him before. The juvenile suspect was charged with two counts of aggravated menacing and released on $2,000 unsecured bail

 

TEEN ARRESTED IN ARMED ROBBERY: An 18-year-old Laurel woman was arrested today in connection with a late-night armed robbery two weeks ago at a convenience store in the town. Laurel police charged Iajha Matthews with first-degree robbery and conspiracy in the Feb. 25 gunpoint robbery at the Shore Stop on North Central Ave Matthews is the second of two suspects arrested for the robbery, police said. Last week, Tyshae K. Williams, 19, of Selbyville, was arrested March 2 and charged with first-degree robbery, possession of a firearm during a felony, two counts of aggravated menacing and conspiracy. 100 BURGLARY COUNTS: Three people, including a juvenile, were charged Tuesday with more than 100 counts of burglary and other offenses stemming from a rash of break-ins in Kent County. Patrick L. Countryman, 21, and Sean N. Cornwell, 18, both of Harrington, and a 16-year-old from Milford were responsible for a five-month burglary spree in Camden and Harrington that lasted through February, police said. The suspects mainly broke into sheds and vehicles, stealing power tools, money, GPS systems, sunglasses, iPods and DVDs. They have been linked to 40 robberies. Countryman and Cornwell were charged with 166 offenses ranging from burglary to theft. Countryman is being held at Vaughn Correction Center in lieu of $180,000 bail. Cornwell is in Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $28,000 bail. The 16-year-old, who was in custody on an unrelated incident, was charged with 144 offenses and is in Stevenson House Detention Center.

ATTACKED IN HER HOME: The public is being asked to help find attempted-murder suspect Maurice Antonio Handy Jr., 20, after a Seaford-area attack. Handy, known to frequent Dover, Seaford and Federalsburg, Md., allegedly tried to kill a woman about 1:30 a.m. Friday at her home in Mobile Gardens, Seaford, Delaware State Police Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh said. The 30-year-old victim sought medical treatment at Nanticoke Hospital and told police Handy broke into her house, hit her, tried to strangle her and took the phone when she tried to call 911. She kept screaming and Handy eventually fled. Handy earlier stole credit cards and cash from her, but when he called to apologize, she told him to leave her alone. 79 YEAR OLD WOMEN HURT IN PURSE SNATCHING: A 79-year-old woman was injured Thursday night by a purse snatcher who accosted her inside her apartment building, police said. The incident occurred about  When she walked up the stairs to her apartment, a man accosted her on the second floor and grabbed her purse, Navarro said. The assailant pulled the victim to the ground, causing her injuries, and then ran off with her purse. Officers searched the area for a stocky man in dark clothing, but were unable to find him. HOME BURGLARIZED: A 51-year-old Millsboro man was arrested Monday for burglarizing a home east of the town, police said. Bruce E. Revel, of the 26000 block of Old Landing Road, was charged with burglary and two other offenses and released on $3,500 bail. Troopers were called to the 28000 block of Sloop Ave. in the Long Neck area about 12:25 a.m. The resident told police that a two-tone Chevy pickup pulled out of his driveway, said state police Master Sgt. Bruce Harris. Following the pickup a short distance behind, the victim spotted some of his property in its bed. After losing sight of the truck, the victim returned home where he found an air conditioner, lawn mower and copper tubing missing. State troopers later arrested Revel at his home.

 

ROBBERY ARRESTS: Two Wilmington men and a Maryland man have been arrested for a series of robberies in Delaware, police said. The robberies, which date to Jan. 3, were in Bear, Newark, Wilmington, Claymont and New Castle. On Wednesday, a Delaware state trooper saw a man run from a Shell gas station at 3932 Concord Pike near Wilmington shortly before 7:30 p.m. The trooper caught the suspect, Marvin J. Poore, 19, of Wilmington. He was carrying a gun and money, police said. Two other men, Blake R. Marsh, 21, of Wilmington and Jeffrey M. Moore, 22, of Elkton were found later in what police described as a getaway car. They have been linked to 11 robberies. Newark police have charged the suspects for two robberies at a Dunkin' Donuts at 1142 Elkton Road. New Castle County police are investigating. All three were charged with robbery, weapons and conspiracy counts.

 

DEADLY WEAPON CHARGES: A Bear man stopped for a traffic violation Tuesday night was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and other offenses after officers found a loaded handgun in his car. Daniel Brown Jr., 41, of the first block of Lisa Drive, was stopped about 8 p.m. after officers saw his Chevrolet Monte Carlo run a red light near the Iron Hill Apartments. When officers pulled Brown over, they saw drug paraphernalia in his car and found a loaded .357-caliber handgun under a seat, New Castle County Police Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro said. Brown is prohibited from owning a weapon because of a previous conviction and was being held in Young Correctional Institution on $20,500

 

HOMEOWNER SHOT DURING HOME INVASION: One resident was shot when armed robbers forced their way into a home north of Greenwood, state police said. The incident happened about 12:20 a.m. Monday in the 23000 block of S. Du Pont Highway (U.S. 13). A 51-year-old woman resident heard a loud noise at the front door and hid while trying to call 911. After the woman hung up, one of the robbers found her and dragged her by the hair to the living room area and tied her up with a phone cord. The robbers then found a 34-year-old man in his bedroom, demanded money and then shot him a number of times in the leg and lower extremities, state police spokesman Cpl. Bruce Harris said. The suspects fled. Police are still trying to determine what was taken from the home. The 34-year-old man was taken to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, where he was listed in stable condition, Harris said. The woman did not require hospitalization. One suspect was described as 5’10” with average build, and wearing a blue jump suit and mask. He carried a handgun. Another was 5’07” with stocky or plump build and also with a handgun. Police said the third robber was a man who waited outside but they had no detailed description. HOME INVASION: State police were investigating a home invasion outside Dover that left one resident injured about 7:35 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of S. Governors Blvd. in the Capitol Park area. Two men -- one age 20 and the other 23 -- were at home when they heard a knock on the door. Two men forced their way inside, showed two handguns and demanded money. One struck the 23-year-old with a gun, cutting the left side of his head. The 20-year-old was confronted by the other gunman but was not injured. The robbers escaped with cash, computer game equipment and two cell phones. Both thieves were described as about 5 feet, 7 inches and 150 to 170 pounds. ARMED ROBBERY AT FRIENDLY'S EMPLOYEES ORDER TO FREEZER An armed robber held up four employees of Friendly’s restaurant at 1115 South College Ave in Newark on Sunday, police said today. At 11:30 p.m., after the restaurant had closed for the night, an employee was transporting trash to an outside trash bin when he was approached by a man who demanded entrance to the restaurant. The suspect was taken into the office, where he ordered all four employees to give him money. He also ordered them to enter and remain in the restaurant’s freezer.  Once they were confident the suspect had left, they let themselves out of the freezer and called police. None were injured. The suspect appeared to be a light-skinned male with an average build. He looked to be between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 with a weight between 160 and 180 pounds. He was wearing dark pants and a black jacket.  The victims include a 21-year-old male, 22-year-old female, a 37-year-old male and a 46-year-old female. None were injured. TEEN CHARGED: Two teens were arrested Friday after breaking into an 80-year-old woman's home, police said. The intruders entered the home in the Meadow community near Delaware Park by cutting a window screen, said Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro of New Castle County police. The victim called 911. The boys were charged with burglary and other offenses. Harry Collins, 18, of Wilmington, was released on $4,100 bail. A 17-year-old was being held in the New Castle County Detention Center on $5,600 bail.

STRONG-ARM ROBBERY: State police are investigating a Sunday night robbery in the parking lot of a Bear-area shopping center. A 20-year-old man was held up about 6:45 p.m. in the parking lot of the Salem Village Shopping Center after using the ATM machine inside the Wawa Food Market to withdraw money, said state police spokesman Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh. The victim said he was confronted by three men in hooded sweat shirts who pushed him up against his car, rifled his pockets and took the money, Whitmarsh said. The victim was not injured. The robbers ran toward Christiana High School. RESTAURANT ROBBED: A clerk at a Claymont-area Chinese restaurant was robbed at gunpoint Sunday night. State police are searching for two men, one armed with a gun. The incident occurred about 5:15 p.m. at the Wah Yuan Restaurant, at 2705 Philadelphia Pike, said Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh, of the Delaware State Police. Two men with their faces covered walked into the restaurant and demanded money from the clerk. One had a handgun. The clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the bandits fled. Whitmarsh said no customers were in the restaurant at the time of the holdup. ROBBER HIT BY CAR WHILE FLEEING! State Police are investigating a crash on I-95 early Saturday that killed a 26-year old man who was fleeing a robbery scene on foot. The victim, whose identity has not been released by police, had been involved in a robbery on South Chapel Street near Newark along with two other occupants of the vehicle, police Sgt. Walter Newton said. As the suspects fled, the car got a a flat tire, Newton said, but they continued to drive until abandoning it on the shoulder of the northbound lanes of I-95 just north of Del. 896. The three occupants got out of the vehicle about 2:20 a.m. and crossed the northbound lanes. While crossing the southbound lanes, police said, the 26-year-old was struck by a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Marcus A. Burch, 26, of Wilmington. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Burch, who has not been charged, was wearing his seat belt.

 

SHOOTING SUSPECT: A New Castle-area man is accused of shooting another man about 9:35 p.m. Friday during an attempted robbery in Collins Park. Anthony Ricchiuti, 19, of the first block of Bunker Hill Road, and another male approached the 19-year-old victim and his friends, said New Castle County police Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro. Ricchiuti shot the victim twice before running away empty-handed. The victim underwent surgery for two upper-body wounds at Christiana Hospital. He was in stable condition. Ricchiuti was arrested without incident at his home. The identity of the other suspect is not known. He is described as about 6 feet tall, 175 to 195 pounds and wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and sweat pants and carrying a folding knife. ASSAILANT SOUGHT: New Castle County police are investigating a "possible attempted abduction" of a pregnant woman that took place on New Year's Eve between 7 and 8 p.m. A 20-year-old woman said she was walking on Wellington Drive in the Wellington Woods development south toward U.S. 40 in Bear, Cpl. Trinidad Navarro said. The woman said a light-colored subcompact car drove toward her in the north lane and stopped. The man driving asked if she needed a ride. She continued walking and the man drove away. A short time later, she was grabbed from behind by a man who tried to drag her across the road. When passing cars approached, the man let her go, got into his car and drove away. The woman, who was not hurt, called 911. WOMAN SCARES OFF ROBBER: A 19-year-old man who was scared off by his would-be victim has been charged with trying to rob a 57-year-old woman Saturday, Newark police said. About 9:50 p.m. at the College Square Shopping Center, Brandon McDonough of the first block of Fairfield Road in Claymont drove up to the woman and asked for directions. When she stepped closer to his car, McDonough demanded her purse. When the woman refused, McDonough got out of his car with what appeared to be a rifle, police said. Using her car's key remote, the woman activated her vehicle's emergency alarm, causing McDonough to flee. Using a description provided by the woman, police were able to get an arrest warrant Monday and charged McDonough with first-degree attempted robbery and weapons charges. He is being held at Young Correctional Institution on unrelated charges.

INTRUDER SHOT IN MD HOME:  Baltimore County Police say an intruder has been shot in a Pikesville home. Police say a resident of Saracen Drive returned home around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday to find two intruders there. A struggle ensued and police say that's when police say one of the intruders was shot. The other intruder fled. Police say the injured intruder was taken to Shock Trauma and they are still looking for the second intruder. Investigators are still trying to determine who the gun belonged to and whether the intruders and the resident knew each other.

 

ARMED TEENS TRIED TO CARJACK OFFICER: Pittsburgh police say an armed gang of teenagers tried to carjack an officer who was sitting in her personal vehicle while getting ready to go to work. Officer Caytlin Wood had her engine running Monday afternoon before heading for the 4-to-midnight shift when she saw five teens behaving suspiciously in the Bloomfield neighborhood. She called for backup to investigate. Police say a 14-year-old boy demanded the car while pointing a gun at Wood, who was wearing a sweat shirt over her police uniform. They say the boy ran when Wood stepped out but she caught him a block away. They say backup officers caught the other teens, aged 14 to 17. The juveniles have been charged with robbery of a motor vehicle and criminal conspiracy. The 14-year-old boy has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm.

 

STUDENT ALLEGEDLY HAD GUN: Delaware State Police said charges are pending against a 16-year-old male student at William Penn High School in New Castle after school officials found a gun in his backpack. Officers said a fellow student told a faculty member about seeing the teen with the gun. Administrators and troopers searched the student and his property in the school's main office and found the weapon, according to a report. They later found that it had been stolen. The teen was not arrested but police are investigating.

MAN FIRES GUN AT ROBBERS: A Glasgow-area man was arrested for discharging a firearm in a residential area after several Cobble Creek residents reported predawn gunfire, New Castle County Police Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro said today. John Slone, 24, of the 500 block of Cobble Creek Curve told police he shot at two men trying to break into his car shortly after 3 a.m. Sunday, Navarro said.  Police, who found Slone’s small-caliber handgun in a search of his home, found no bullet damage to nearby homes or vehicles, Navarro said.  Slone, arrested without incident, gave officers little description of the men and hospital checks found no reports of injuries in the incident, Navarro said. Discharging a firearm in an occupied residential area is a county code violation, he said, and calling 911 is the right response to crimes in progress.

 

PURSE SNATCHED AT BUS STOP: A woman waiting for a bus near Prices Corner was taunted by two men who stole her purse, state police said Friday. The incident occurred about 7:30 p.m. Thursday at a bus stop on Maryland Avenue at Hillside Avenue, said Cpl. Thomas Guarini. The victim, 50, said the men got angry when she ignored their obnoxious remarks. One tried to grab her purse and she held on, but when the other man also grabbed it, she let go. One of the men was described as 40 to 45 years old, 6 feet 2 to 4 inches tall, about 175 pounds. The other was about 20 to 25, 5 feet 6to 7 inches tall and about 150 pounds. MAN PULLS SHOTGUN: A 28-year-old Middletown man was arrested early Saturday morning near Newark after police said he pulled a shotgun in the parking lot of a local eatery. The incident happened at 12:18 a.m. in the parking lot of the D&H Jamaican Restaurant at 748 E. Chestnut Hill Rd. Police said Jahangyr Patterson had been going in and out of the restaurant, arguing with his 23-year-old ex-girlfriend. Officers said after leaving the restaurant for the last time, Patterson went to his car and got out a shotgun. He pumped the gun's action several times and fled. Police said he turned onto Augusta Drive, crashed into a fence, kept driving and hit two parked cars. He was caught trying to get out of his car and was charged with aggravated menacing, weapons charges, failing to stop for a police officer and several traffic violations, police said. He was committed to the Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $13,000 bail.

 

BASEBALL BAT ASSAULT: Police arrested a man Sunday morning after they found him assaulting another man with a baseball bat. New Castle County police were called to the 300 block of W. Summit Ave. in the Elmhurst community at 3:42 a.m. Officers said they heard a fight inside a home. When they walked in, they saw two men on the ground fighting. Another man was standing over one of them, hitting him in the head and back with a baseball bat. Police ordered the man to drop the bat. The assailant then ran to the back of the home. The man being attacked crawled over to police and collapsed. Police said he suffered a seizure. He also suffered deep cuts and bruises and was taken to Christiana Hospital. Mark Kenney, 27, was charged with first-degree assault and possession of a deadly weapon.

 

ROBBERY AT UD: A University of Delaware dining services manager was robbed of the night's receipts Wednesday when she walked to her van about 11:20 p.m. near the Morris Library, campus police said. The manager was leaving the Bleecker Street Cafe in the library when she was confronted by a man who demanded the money bag. The employee turned over the bag and the man ran. A UD police officer assigned to the library spotted a man matching the thief's description run across South College Avenue to Winslow Road and get into a dark-colored vehicle. SHOTS FIRED IN HOME INVASION ROBBERY IN NEW CASTLE:  Officers investigating a report of shots fired near New Castle early today arrived to find the victims had been robbed by four men during a home-invasion robbery. The incident occurred about 2:40 a.m. in the area of the 100 block of Halcyon Drive, said New Castle County police spokesman Senior Cpl. Trinidad Navarro. An investigation determined that four men forced open a rear door to the residence and forced the home’s occupants into another room. The intruders demanded money and keys before running out of the house with the stolen property. The intruders encountered another victim while fleeing and started chasing him along Halcyon Drive toward New Castle Avenue. Navarro said the intruders fired several gunshots at the victim that hit nearby houses. No one was injured. The armed suspects are described as between 15 and 23 years old and dressed in dark clothing.Police are asking anyone with information on this crime to call Detective Argoe at 395-8110 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333.

 

ASSAILANTS SOUGHT:  New Castle County police said seven suspects assaulted a 32-year-old man in Bear and took his cell phone and cigarettes as he walked home from work Sunday night. New Castle County police are asking for the public's help in finding the group. Police said at 11:30 p.m. the man headed toward Songsmith Drive near Blatty Place when the group approached him. One man punched him in the face, and the others forced him to the ground. He suffered a broken nose and had injuries to his hand and knee. Police said the suspects fled toward Stone Place and the Village of Kent complex. The victim could describe only two of the men. One who was 6 feet tall and wore a dark wool cap, a red Phillies jacket and blue jeans. The other was 5 feet 10 and thin. He wore a black do-rag, black shirt and dark pants, police said. ATTEMPTED CAR THEFT: A man with a handgun tried to steal a car while the owner was in it Friday in the parking lot of a Bear-area shopping center, state police said. About 6 p.m., the thief started to open the driver's side door while the driver, a 49-year-old Newark woman, was parked outside the Acme in the Fox Run Shopping Center, said Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh. The victim pulled the door shut and hit the power locks, he said. The bandit then grabbed the handle of one of the rear doors and demanded that the victim open it. When she refused, he ran toward U.S. 40. He is 30 to 40 years old with a thin mustache and wearing a green hooded sweat shirt. SHOPPER ROBBED: A holiday shopper was robbed at gunpoint Friday evening in the parking lot of a Bear shopping center, state police said. The victim was walking about 7:30 p.m. toward the Kmart in the Governors Shopping Center in the 400 block of Governors Place when a black four-door car pulled up beside him, Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh said. A man in the front passenger seat asked if the victim wanted to buy CDs. When the victim said he did and started walking toward the car, the bandit donned a mask and pulled a handgun. He demanded the victim's purchases and cash and drove off. The victim was not injured. SHOOTING AT CLUB: State police are investigating a shooting early Thursday at a Wilmington-area nightclub. Troopers were called to the Gold Club, 1031 S. Market St., about 2 a.m. Police said the 25-year-old male victim was an innocent bystander who was at the entrance of the club when he was shot by one of two men who bouncers would not allow into the club. The men began arguing with employees, then one of them pulled a gun and fired. The victim, who had arrived at the club to pick up his girlfriend, was struck in the hip. The two men, described as in their 20s or 30s, fled in a small black four-door vehicle, possibly a Toyota, police said. SUSPECTED KIDNAPPING: New Castle County police are trying to find a Wilmington man suspected in a reported kidnapping and assault of an ex-girlfriend early Thursday. Jose Morales, 29, of the 1700 block of W. Fourth St., is also wanted on an outstanding warrant and because he is listed as a suicidal missing person. Morales last was seen wearing orange and yellow glasses, blue jeans, a pink button-down shirt, a black jacket and black shoes. His hair was in a "Mohawk" style. Police ask anyone with information about Morales to call Detective Michael Bradshaw at 395-8110.

TWO INJURED IN BAR FIGHT: A fight that broke out Wednesday at the Equator International Lounge near Newark led to one man being shot and two others stabbed, state police said. Police were called to the bar at 15 Prestbury Square shortly before 1 a.m. for reports of shots fired, Senior Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh said. By the time troopers arrived, the crowd had dispersed and two injured men had been taken to the hospital. Investigators determined that during the fight, a 41-year-old man was shot in the thigh, finger and wrist; a 27-year-old man was stabbed in the chest; and a 24-year-old man was stabbed in the lower back. ROBBERY, WEAPONS CHARGES: A 27-year-old Wilmington man was charged with first-degree robbery for a Nov. 18 incident in Newark, city police said. Jack Warrington is believed to be responsible for robbing a University of Delaware student who was headed to a friend's house on Prospect Avenue early that morning. Police also recovered the suspected Honda Accord used in the robbery. Warrington was also charged with multiple weapons offenses. He is in Young Correctional Institution.
